What is Webster Technique?

Chiropractic care is safe throughout pregnancy and can help with a number of its challenges. As pregnancy progresses, your pelvis and lower back are put under increasing stress, often leading to lower back pain as well as other conditions including pubic symphysis dysfunction.

Webster technique is a gentle chiropractic approach used for pregnancy that we use to balance the pelvic muscles, bones and ligaments. This helps to improve pelvic function and help your body with the physical demands of pregnancy.

Treatment can help you and your baby with more than just pain. A balanced pelvis optimises the space inside the womb for your baby, giving them the best chance of assuming a good birth position. Good pelvic function can also promote a smooth birth process, with the physical stresses of birth distributed evenly. Some patients even seek treatment during the early stages of labour itself. For the later stages of labour, we can give you tools to help you, as well as provide birth partners with basic techniques they can use to help you.

Once baby has arrived, it is important to reassess the pelvis including the function of the pelvic floor due to the stresses that your body goes through in labour. Continuing with treatment post pregnancy can help you with he physical demands of caring for your baby, as well prepare your pelvis for potential future pregnancies.

What is paediatric care?

Chiropractic care is suitable for everyone. Our patients range from newborns all the way through to old age. However, the type of care provided is very different for newborns and young children.

Treatment techniques for our younger patients is incredibly gentle, but often very effective. No cracking sounds occur during these treatments. The most frequent treatment techniques used are cranial releases and gentle spinal manipulation. Cranial releases can also be used in adults, but are particularly powerful for babies. This is because their skulls bones are not fused at this age and are therefore more mobile. This mobility is required for baby to be born.

Stresses on baby’s body, especially the head, during the birth process is a common reason to seek chiropractic care. This stress can be increased with a particularly long or short labour, as well as birth interventions including ventouse and forceps. Despite this, babies born by caesarian section can also benefit from treatment, as baby can also experience physical stresses throughout pregnancy as well as after they are born.

A chiropractic paediatric examination will establish if chiropractic care could benefit your baby. Treatment can help to reduce musculoskeletal stresses which can help with developmental milestones. Many mums also report improvements in sleep, feeding and digestive issues.

If you have any questions about chiropractic care for either pregnancy or young patients, contact us and our Webster and paediatric chiropractor Mike will be happy to discuss them with you.
