Our reflexology appointments are run with our reflexologist Helen Turier at our Horsham clinic.
Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy. It is based on the theory that different points on the feet and hands correspond with different areas of the body.
Reflexologists work holistically with their clients and provide a period of time (usually an hour) where the client has one-to-one attention, relaxation and supportive touch. The therapist is empathic and provides non-judgemental listening.
Reflexology is unusual even as a complementary therapy because unlike others the person receiving the treatment is positioned a comfortable body-length away from the therapist yet face to face. This positioning is conducive for clients to talk if they want while therapeutic touch is provided.
Within the NHS reflexology is used in 62% of cancer units [3] as a supportive therapy with very few safety concerns as no adverse events have been highlighted in any of the studies, while high rates of satisfaction are noted.
There are a number of research studies that shed some light on how reflexology might work including two studies from Japan using functional magnetic resonance imaging.
These show increased blood flow into areas of the brain corresponding to the reflexology point of action. This supports the fundamental premise of reflexology that working a specific reflex area on the feet has an effect on blood flow in the corresponding area of the body.[1] [2]

Reflexology is a very easy therapy to receive. You will be comfortably seated on the examination couch or reclining chair and will simply have to remove your shoes and socks to receive foot reflexology.
Helen will then use her hands to apply pressure to your feet or hands. The experience is relaxing and not ticklish. Treatment length is 60 minutes for the first appointment then subsequent appointments are 50 minutes.
Our reflexologist in Horsham, Helen, is a member of the Association of Reflexologists, a registrant with the Federation of Holistic Therapists and a profession-specific board member for the Complementary & Natural Health Council.
