Autumn unfolds with falling leaves and cooler breezes, reflecting the Metal element in TCM. This period reveals how letting go, finding proper boundaries, and valuing what truly matters can shape our health and mindset.
At Weald Chiropractic, I’ve noted that imbalances in Metal often appear both physically and emotionally. Let’s consider how aligning with Metal energy fosters clarity and a sense of renewal.
Metal corresponds to the Lungs and Large Intestine. These organs physically and emotionally support our release of what’s unnecessary—exhaling carbon dioxide and eliminating waste. Grief is the emotion linked to Metal, reminding us that feeling loss and moving on are natural cycles of life.
The Lungs, known as the “tender organ,” help process external stimuli and emotional shifts. The Large Intestine discerns what to hold onto and what to discard. Balanced Metal energy brings resilient breathing, healthy boundaries, and an ability to honour endings gracefully.
If emotions remain stuck, the Lungs may show distress through coughs or shallow breathing. Skin problems can surface because the skin is considered an extension of the Lung system. Blocked release can also manifest as constipation or hoarding—physical or emotional.
Over time, shoulders may round, and the chest can feel tight. You might catch yourself guarding against deeper feelings or resisting change, which disturbs Metal’s natural rhythm of letting go.
Acupuncture supports the Metal meridians and encourages the release of pent-up grief. Beginning this work in autumn can be especially beneficial, but Metal principles can help any time of year.
If you find yourself challenged by longstanding sadness or boundary issues, consider how balancing the Metal element may offer deeper relief.
